• Having moved on had taken a transfer to East London under the program to tempt established firefighters to the capitol and had settled into his new life. Aware of the way things finished with Tanya and the knowledge that Mr. Smith & Jones were out there like spectres ready to haunt him at any time he had learnt from Tanya's ex-boss Graham as to how best watch his back and had two residences at which he lived. One was his officially recognised one the other discreet. He expected them to crop up at some point but nothing occurred and he started to relax as time moved along.
• In his whole new environment, he got on well with his new Watch at the Fire station although he did run into an early issue with one of the guys. In messroom chat he had been made aware that Mark, a guy in his early thirties, had previously been in the army. He casually asked him that he understood he'd been in the army and where did he serve when Mark stopped eating his meal and walked out without saying a single word. The others advised him never to discuss the army with him. Previously, although never discussed, he'd dropped hints it was a part of his life he wanted to forget about. There were clues though, a fair few scars on his face and body that led to speculation he had been involved in some form of explosion, but nobody knew for sure.
• Two of the Watch had part ownership in a boxing club in Silvertown, not too far from the Fire station. Being new to the area Matt found it helped in making new friends and found himself taking classes in Krav Magna. He'd heard of it and knew it was a form of combat developed by the Israel Defence Force. After his previous encounters with Mr. Jones he felt that he had nothing to lose in learning some techniques to possibly help him defend himself if required. Because of the rostering pattern Matt spent a huge portion of time at the boxing club helping out and in return the club helped him through a steep learning curve in self defence which brought him up to a moderate skill level quickly.
